Moxa in Motion: The Ontake Method

The Ontake Method is a ground-breaking new body work technique developed by Oran Kivity. Heated bamboo is applied to the skin rhythmically, using a metronome, at specific frequencies of beats per minute, according to the meridian affected. This approach integrates traditional Chinese acupuncture theory, modern holographic models and Japanese doctor Yoshio Manaka’s research into meridian frequencies. This day  can be booked individually but also serves as the second day to the one-day introductory course taking place at the ASA TCM Kongress in Solothurn. This day can either be booked as a stand-alone day or as a follow-up to the Introduction Day, which will be held at the ASA Convention on 11/19/2022. The first 1.5 hours serve as an introduction for those who have not already attended the ASA Congress, so that the rest of the day can be easily understood by all.

About this course

Is moxibustion too difficult to apply, too risky or too smoky? Discover an effective new moxa method from Japan that gets rapid results - safely.

Introducing the Ontake Method—an innovative approach to moxibustion that is simple to learn and easy to apply, whatever your style of acupuncture or meridian-based bodywork may be. Heated bamboo is applied on the skin rhythmically at specific frequencies of beats per minute, according to the meridian being treated.

This meridian frequency treatment brings about rapid changes in body condition and relieves pain fast. It will greatly enhance your clinical effectiveness, and most importantly, patients love it. In addition, the application of Ontake will deepen your palpation skills, literally bringing you closer in touch with the channel system and broadening your understanding of its dynamic interrelationships.

The workshop is split into two days. Day One, at the ASA TCM Congress, covers everything you need to know about the basics of loading, lighting and applying bamboo treatment, as well as getting you started on channel palpation. You will learn and practice a whole-body bamboo routine that will train you to palpate and treat any area of the body. This routine can be broken down into single components such as the back, arm and leg that can be useful in your regular clinical practice.

Day Two, at Chiway Academy in Wintertur, is an optional second day for those who wish to deepen their knowledge of Ontake. Day Two covers the use of Ontake for symptom relief, including the rapid relief of pain using Dr. Tan’s holographic mappings, adapted to Ontake.

For those who cannot participate on Day One but wish to attend Day Two, there is a special pre-class induction* at Chiway Academy to get you up to speed with loading and lighting your Ontake.

For this reason, we are providing a ‘’crash-course’’ in the essentials of loading and lighting Ontake. This "crash-course" does not cover all the material from Day One but prepares students to understand and participate in Day Two. Participants will receive the handouts for Day One.
